    • Was listed as 65 in 1880 census with wife  Lucinda age50, sons Edward A,age 18 and James age 13, and daughterJane age 16. - from notes acquired w/Russell V. Skelton'spapers.
    • (Medical):REED CITY WEEKLY CLARION:  June 3, 1881In 1880 there were 33 births in this township and 58deaths.  Of this number 33 were caused by diphtheria.
      A grave cannot be found for Addison although his deathcertificate proves he died in Osceola Co.  Thecertificate also states that he died from fever and thereis every reason to believe he was one of the statisticsalluded to in the above newspaper article.  If that isso than he would have been buried very quickly due to thecontagiousness of his sickness and the epidemic that wassweeping through the township.

      DIPHTHERIA and SCARLET FEVERFrom a circular issued by Dr. James Crane, of the BrooklynHealth Department, we make the following extract:"Diphtheria and scarlet fever are highly contagiousdiseases, attacking persons of all ages.  They may becontracted from persons that are already  affected,from the clothes they have worn and from  everythingthat has been in the room with them.  Even the wallsof a room may infect persons coming into it after thepatient has recovered, unless the poison isdestroyed.  In order to prevent their spread thefamily or a house where they exist, and to promote therecovery of the persons attacked, the following simplemeasures should be conscientiously and rigidly carried out,thereby preventing much suffering and saving humanlife.  An upper, sunny room, provided if possible withan open fireplace and with no children on the same floor,should be arranged for the patient by removing everythingfrom it  that can possibly be spared, such as books,clothing and window curtains, remembering that when thepatient has entered the room nothing can safely be removeduntil disinfected or fumigated.  One or two adultsshould take the entire charge of the patient, under nocircumstances coming in contact with other persons, moreespecially children.  Open windows and open fireplaceswith fire in them day and night , avoiding draughts andchilly air, protects the sick and those who nursethem.  Nothing should be removed from the room whenthe patient has once entered it until it has beenthoroughly disinfected or fumigated."
