      OBITUARY.
      Jesse H. Halladay.

           Mr. Jesse H. Halladay died Sundayafternoon at four o'clock, at his residence in Mexico, aged72 years.
           About two years ago he began to betroubled with a cancer on his lip. Medical treatmentrelieved him temporarily but not permanently and hesuffered untold misery with its ravages.
      Death came as a relief rather than to be dreaded.
         He was one of the familiar figures of our townand will be greatly missed by all. His was a genial, sunnynature with a kind word for everyone. He was upright andhonorable in all his dealings, as said of him by one, "hisword was as good as a bond." He was born in the town of NewHaven and lived there until about 20 years ago when hemoved into the house where he died on Mill street.
         He held office several times in the town ofNew Haven and after coming to Mexico held the position ofstreet commissioner of this village for about 10 years.
         He leaves beside his wife two children, adaughter, Mrs. Hattie
      Newell, who with her two children resided with him, and oneson, John B. Halliday of Chicago. The funeral will be heldWednesday or Thursday.

      MEXICO, Jan. 7.'97 Mr. Jesse Halladay died at his home inthis village Sunday afternoon, aged seventy-two years."Uncle Jesse," as he was familiarly called, was a manhonored for his uprightness and esteemed for hiskindly/genial ways. His, was a familiar figure upon ourstreets in his days of health, and he always had a smileand a pleasant word for everyone. Months of intensesuffering were borne with heroic fortitude and patience.His widow, a daughter, Mrs; Hattie Newell, and a son, Mr. J. B. Halladay, of Chicago, have the sincere sympathy
