Halladay Wheeler, 1810-1902
.... AME or AMEY MOSES, wife ofWilliam3 Halladay, was the daughter ofThomas4 and Sarah (Alderman) Moses of Simsbury,Conn., where she was baptized on Sept. 13, 1713. On one of therecord books of the town of Suffield is recorded themarriage of William Halladay and ANNA Moses. But thisbook has been copied from an older one, and a search in theoriginal volume reveals the fact that the name as recordedisAME instead of Anna, and that a mistake had been made intranscribing to the newer book. Ame Moses was adescendant of John1 Moses who came from Englandabout 1632 settling first at Hingham and afterwardsremoving to Plymouth. He was a blacksmith or shipwright, and established a ship yard at Duxbury. His old anvilwhich he brought from England, plainly marked with thefigures 1632, is still in the possession of the Mosesfamily at Mt. Morris, Livingston Co., NY. His sonJohn2 Moses settled at Windsor, Conn. before1647. He was a soldier in Capt. John Mason's troop ofhorse and saw much service in King Philips war. Two of hissons William and Thomas were also soldiers in this war, andof both therecord reads, "He was wounded that he died." Probably theywere hit by poisoned arrows as they lived about five yearsafter the storming of the Narragansett fort where they werewounded. John2Moses married Mary Brown May 18, 1653. He had landsand residences in both Windsor and Simsbury. His farmat Simsbury was at the northerly end of Mt. Philip, southeast of Simsbury Center. He died at Windsor, Conn. Oct. 14,1683, andhis wife Mary died Sept. 14, 1689. (See "The Moses family,"by Zebina Moses of Washington, D.C.) John3Moses, son of John2 and Mary (Brown)Moses, married July 14, 1680 Deborah Thrall, daughter ofTimothy2 and Deborah (Gunn) Thrall. Timothy2 Thrall was the son ofWilliam1 of Windsor. John3Moses settled on his father's estate in the gap between thehills at the north end of Mt. Philip in Simsbury and livedand died there. Thomas4Moses, son of John3 born May 8, 1685, marriedSarah Alderman, daughter of William and Sarah (Case)Alderman of Simsbury. Their daughter was born in Simsburyand married William3 Halladay Dec. 13, 1732. [3]
