         Letter from Karen Strong McKellar to Patty Strong dated 17 Feb 1931 gives Mary's maiden name of Wenrick and says according to family lore when they were married William spoke only English and Mary spoke only German.
              Mary and her daughter-in-law, Anna Marie, wife of Levi attended the 60th wedding anniversary of Mary"s brother John in IN on 25 May 1907. Mary had been to the wedding 60 years earlier. At the time of the anniversary, Mary was from Leonidas, MI and her daughter-in law was from Kalamazoo, MI. See John Wenrick notes for complete account of the occassion.

      From the "Obituary of Mary Strong" The Express, PO Box 816, Colon, MI, 49040-0816 (1998) a weekly newspaper ran the following obiturary. the clipping is undated.
      "Mrs. Mary Strong
      Mary Wernick first saw the light of day in Mellin County, Pennsylvania, June
      26, 1828, and died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Herman Mullen, in Colon,
      July 25, 1916 at the ripe old age of 88 years and 29 days.

      She was married when 18 years of age to William Strong and was the mother of
      nine children, eight boys and one girl, all of whom are living. She had
      forty three grandchildren, forty five great grandchildren and one great
      great grandchild.

      Her husband preceded her to the other shore about thirty years ago.

      She had a sweet spirit, a happy contented disposition and found her greatest
      joy in the service of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Some months ago
      she fell and broke her shoulder bone from which she never fully recovered,
      she suffered very patiently. In early life she gave her heart to Christ and
      was for many years a member of the Christian Reformed church. The funeral
      service was held in the Baptist church conducted by Rev. Trott, and the
      burial was in Lakeside cemetery.

      (Regarding the above obituary, there is no Mellen County, PA and i would suspect it should be Mifflin County where the Strongs and Wenricks both lived in Armagh Twp.)


              Mary was living with her daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Herman Mullen at the time of her death in 1916.

      .........The cemetery is called Lakeside Cemetery.  There is no sign to identify it except on a maintenance building well inside it.  It is located on Farrand Rd. just off Colon Rd.  If you enter the cemetery through the drive farthest from Colon Rd. and go past the
      oldest graves in the front past a red brick building there will be a cedar tree on the right.  The Strong lot is just past (almost under) that tree and before you reach a gray brick building on the left and a white one on the right.  I tried to send you earlier a sketch of the above description without success.  Hopefully, when your family visits there this will help save some time.  It took me quite a while to find it with only the "buried at Colon" as my clue.
