ALONZO PRATT, 85, DIES AT ASHTON
Resident of Lincoln Township 54 Years Succumbs; Leaves Many Progeny

Alonzo Pratt, 85, resident of Lincoln township for 54 years, passed away early Friday morning, November 20, of a heart attack at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Squiar Pratt.
Mr. Pratt had gone deer hunting last week Monday with relatives as was his usual yearly custom.  He enjoyed the day hugely and appeared to have suffered no ill effects from the day in the woods.  Late Thursday night he suffered a heart attack and died shortly thereafter.
Born in Canada on May 30, 1857, he came to Michigan as a youngster and resided in Huron county.  He escaped death in the famous Huron county fire when he was hauling water in barrels using a yoke of oxen.  He crouched behind the barrels to escape the heat of the flames in the woods.  One of the oxen died of burns soon after the trip.
Married to Miss Abigail Hunt at Port Austin on December 14, 1881, the couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1941.
Mr. and Mrs. Pratt came to Osceola conty in 1888 and had resided on the same farm east of Ashton for 55 years. Nine children were born to the couple all of them being alive except one daughter who died in infancy.
Surviving are the wife, who is very ill; six sons, Elkins of Paw Paw, Luther, Braton, Robert, Charles, and Ernest of Detroit; two daughters, Mrs. Squiar Pratt of Ashton and Mrs. George Washburn of Charlotte; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and three sisters, Mrs. jane Moore of Ashton, Mrs. Ann Blackman of Canada and Mrs. Diantha Gage of Detroit.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Squiar Pratt home followed by services in the Ashton Methodist church with the Rev. John B. West of LeRoy officiating.  Interment took place in Ashton Cemetery.
