Centerville Man Ended Life in Jail
      ___
        Centerville, Mich., June 11, --(U.P)_
Oscar(sic George) Hafer, 52, who was captured in a swamp yesterday evening after he had shot and wounded his brother-in-law Melvin Spaid, ended his life in his cell in the county jail here sometime during the night.
His body, hanging from the top of his cell, was found this morning. Hafer had used chains from his cell cot to form a noose.  A stool, on which he had stood while preparing the noose, had been kicked aside.
Sheriff James E. Correll said Hafer tried to end his life when he and his deputies surrounded him in the swamp last night. Hafer was to have been arraigned today on a charge of assault with intent  to do great bodily harm.
When arrested Hafer told officers he blamed his wife's relations for trouble they had been having.
