George Jonathan Pope, born at his parent's home in January 23, 1830. After his father's death in 1849 George continued to live on the homestead with his mother. On May 6, 1862 George married Isabelle Gillespie, daughter of Adam Gillespie, a retired British soldier turned schoolteacher. George and Isabelle Pope had four children:
