Finded $50 for Kidnap Story
A false report that he had been kidnapped and robbed cost Julian Schoonmaker of Torch Lake a $50 fine and costs in Antrim county justice court Thursday, state police reported today.
Officers said they received a report from Schoonmaker's wife that he was missing from Monday evening until Thursday morning. In a telephone conversation with the man, troopers were told that he had been kidnapped and his billfold containing $75 taken.
State police made a trip to Torch Lake to investigate Schoonmaker's story, and he admitted during questioning that he had made up the story as an explanation to his wife for his absence.
Taken before Justice Raymond Sexton at Bellaire, he pleaded guilty to a charge of reproting a fictitious crime and paid the $50 fine.
