Hi--
To introduce myself to those new to this JF Strong group, I am Joyce McJilton Dwyer and live in Maynard MA west of Boston, but grew up in St. Louis MI. I'm a watercolor painter and drawer and teach watercolor as well as having a part time framing job.
My mother is Margaret Franks, daughter of Harry McKinley Franks and Anna Mae Clegg Franks. There were 5 children of Harry and Anna: Hugh, Margaret, Evelyn, Phyllis JoAnn (who goes by JoAnn) and Virginia (who goes by Ginny). My mother was the oldest daughter, Hugh was older than her and he died about 20 years ago around age 65. My mother, Margaret, is 83, but is beginning to lose her memory. Evelyn, 81, JoAnn and Ginny are still alive and the sisters do a lot of things together. I also am the one in my family who collects the genealogy and family information and pictures--though I don't have much time currently to do genealogy reasearch. I put the information I get in one place to do more with organization later. I am doing 2 genealogy albums, one for the McJilton/Franks family and one for my husband's family. I am including pictures as well, and maps and photos of their homes. I was doing some looking and photographing of headstones in the Oak Grove cemetery in St. Louis this past August when I was home visiting. I see now that I need to look for some more Strong headstones in that same cemetery the next time. My mother has the Franks family Bible. I think she also has a family portrait with 20 or 30 people in it that may be of the Strongs with the many children and their spouses. Do others in this group have that photo? If not, I may need to try to track it down again up at my mother's house to later share with this group.
Holly's album had 4 photos that I recognize. I have seen the 3-generation/4 person photo (#47) of James Strong, Mary Strong, daughter Mary Barbara Strong (my great grandmother) and Harry Franks (my grandfather). I think by that time Harry's father had died, or he would have been in the photo. Harry's father died when Harry was around 10, I think, and Harry was "the man of the house" and doing all the farming when he was around age 13.
Photo #51 of Harry McKinley Franks and his sister, Josephine Franks, I have a copy of that one. I also have a sibling photo of the two of them when they were a couple years older. If I can find it, I'll scan and e-mail it to the group. Photo #52 of great aunt Josie and Lou Hill, her husband, I had not seen before. By the time I knew her she was ill a long time and bedridden. And the photo #53 I think might be her high school graduation photo.
Thanks for sharing those photos, Holly.
