| Notes |
- "H. B. Pratt ...lived in Canada until 1869, he went directly to Nebraska. He engaged work with one of the companies that freighted and traded with the indians. He who knew him admired his splended physical courage and those manly qualities, which made the men of whom he was a type, the forerunners of civilization. He has been connected with the police department of Nebraska City a number of times and at the time of his death was just completing his second year on the force. As an officer he was fearless, just and uncomprimising in his loyalty to what he consided his duty. His lack of anything resembling fear made him the terror of the lawless and guilded the respect of all law-abiding citizens."except from newspaper (Obituary)
He was also noted to be a big, jolly gentleman, The cause of death was blood poising, caused from an object thrown by a young man in a crowd he was trying to arrest. For years he also farmed near Palmyra were he met and married Lydia Fifer. He had three sons and two daughters. He was laid to rest in Wynka Cemetary. Woodsmen of the World was in charge of the internment, His pall-beares were all Policemen or ex-policemen, by his request.
