Headline - Very Sudden Death of Fred Halladay
Only Two Days Away from Work at the Advance Shops and Retired at 8 o'clock Last Evening Seemingly But Slightly Ill - Died at 11 P.M.
The Enquirer was startled by a telephone message last night which announced the sudden death of Mr. Fred Halladay, which occurred at 11 o'clock P.M. at this home on Battle Creek Avenue from neuralgia of the heard. The deceased, a most worthy employee of the Advance Thresher works, while slightly ailing for a couple of days, has been around as usual and at 8 o'clock last evening walked up stairs and retired for the night with no thought of approaching death or that he was seriously ill.
About 11 o'clock his wife went to his room to inquire how he might be feeling before she retired. The unfortunate man made an attempt to answer her, but swooned away and died in a few seconds time. The family and neighbors were aroused and called as was a physician -- but to no avail, for Mr. Halladay was beyond all earthly aid of science.
The deceased was 43 years of age and leaves a wife and two children - Leon and Adia. He was also a brother of Messrs. Will E., Claude B. and Harry T. Halladay and Mrs. Charles R. Dye, all prominent and well-known citizens of Battle Creek.
The Enquirer's announcement will prove sad intelligence to the many friends and relatives of the deceased.
Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. B. Frank Taber at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon from the family residence, 51 Battle Creek Ave. Interment in Oak Hill cemetery.
