Mrs. Abigail STEARS, wife of George STEARS, and for 41 years a resident of Three Rivers and a lifelong resident of this county died at her East Michigan Ave. home at nine o'clock this morning following five years of illness. Mrs. STEARS had been critically ill the past two days.
She was born in Fabius township, St. Joseph county, January 24, 1874, a daughter of Elias and Mary (CHRISSMAN) JACOBS. She grew to womanhood in the township attending both the Johnnycake and Coon Hollow schools.
On February 23, 1891, she was united in marriage to George STEARS and most of their 48 years of happily married life was spent in Three Rivers. They had lived in the present home, East Michigan avenue for 41 years.
Mrs. STEARS was a member of M. E. Church of this city but had recently, until her declining health forbade her, attended services at Gospel Tabernacle. She was a past president of the Woman's Relief Corps of this city. Mrs. STEARS was a kind and loving wife and mother, a generous neighbor and had won the respect and friendship of all who were well acquainted with her. She bore her long illness with hardihood and continued as much as possible to administer to needs of her family and friends.
She is survived by the husband, George STEARS, by one son, Benjamin STEARS of this city, one daughter, Mrs. Freida O'DELL of Williamston, Mich., three sisters Mrs. Vinnie SLACK, Mrs. Stella CONEY, both of Three Rivers, and Mrs. Gracie McMANNERS of Sturgis; three brothers, Will, John and Dan JACOBS all of Three Rivers; three granddaughters and three grandsons and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the home at two-thirty Sunday, Rev. L. L. Case officiating. Burial in Riverside cemetery.
